On This Easter Day

Do you remember me, Grandma?
These lilies are for you
Picked them at your favorite park
The one near Arthur Kill

Imagine she misses Grandpa
Night lights in vacant eyes
Drawn to sudden song from birds
Past war abducted mind

Do you remember me, Grandma?
When I was Little D?
Within your yard I’d cross home plate
Pretend to be a Yankee

And will you remember me, Grandma?
On this Easter Day
Slave labor tortured
We’re out of time
I watch you wheel away

Old Stairs

Posted in Image Poetry, One Shoot, One Stop Poetry with tags , , , , , , on April 16, 2011 by dustus

I can take old stairs
A salt from lost tears
Perceiving time as incarnation
Shouldering duffel
Backpack full of fear

When hearing walks
Shocks give, tread through hunching spine
No conscience raising better judgment
Each measured step is weight to mind

It’s me… what has been
Shackles forge at will

Self-fulfilling prophecies
She’ll hold me, better, still…

When life returns new feeling
Home not in her head
Travel weary; wrists stop bleeding
Want love before I’m dead

Your Lame Balloon

Posted in One Shoot, One Stop Poetry with tags , , , , , , , , , , on April 9, 2011 by dustus

Sphere filled with tears
Dead weight upon the ground
Gravity finally found an anchor
Lemon has touched down

As I deflate
You levitate
Letting go
Hot air
Escapes…

So
My life won’t fly
Away with you!
Don’t want to stay
Your lame balloon

Self Pity

Posted in Poetry with tags , , , , , , on April 8, 2011 by dustus

I am nothing
And don’t belong…
“Friends” don’t care
To ask, “what’s wrong?”

Though it’s my fault
As well a shame
I’m not there
When they complain

Writing honest
Hurt & proud
Wish that God
Would take me now

So what is wrong?
The answer’s me
Can’t change my life
Nor be happy

Into the Meltdown

Posted in One Stop Poetry, Poetry Reading with tags , , , , , , , on April 5, 2011 by dustus

Maybe there’s a future somewhere
?
I crash into the meltdown pane

A dead bird—choked on hot laced air
Maybe there’s a future somewhere?

Disintegrating fallout cares
Reliving what was this insane
Maybe there’s a future somewhere?

I crash into the meltdown pane
