A Life That Works

Posted in One Stop Poetry, Poetry, Poetry Reading with tags , , , , , , , , , , on June 7, 2011 by dustus

I’d like to share a happy song
Figure out what does go wrong
Itching scalp from burning sun
Seldom let myself have fun…

Want it real?
Sushi raw?
Lacerations from a jaded saw?
I’d like to tell you how I feel
Man up from clown
Stand ground, appeal

Layers of an onion shed
Nightmare turns away pretend
The ceiling shows time’s twisted flow
Adjusting eyes tune street lamp glow

These walls are bare
As will, heartbeats
Jugular, nose
Breathe, repose
This is what a writer chose
As muffled echos ocean close
Interstate drone
Time alone
Everything I wrote and own
Spells drip catching studio skylight—
Wings melt into a candle vigil and
A life that works
Perceived self-worth
To walk this earth
Past pain, main, rebirth
Limbs coated with sweat
My pride, hair, and dirt

Seaward Sent ( #oneshotwednesday poetry )

Eroding shoreline—noxious cloud
Bloody chum fed to sharks
After being asked out of love
Lampoons knife hooked hearts

Assailing claims this sodden course
Frail lists from sunk outpost
Unlike this boat, some ships won’t float
Seaward sent; blowhard boasts

What I believe remains naive
Low tide for trips not smart
Waiving emotion, capsized grief
No lighthouse guide through dark

Rock & Roll Rushmore

Posted in Image Poetry, One Stop Poetry with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on January 11, 2011 by dustus

I feel like nowhere, Man
Far from mountain hills
A much nearer Dakota
South of Strawberry Fields…

Background like The White Album
John & George gone & not forgotten
When all I need is love, so write then
Symbol of knowledge bitten beside them

Rock and Roll Rushmore
Watching over Manhattan Island
Some of the most beautiful lyrics to exist
Lennon and McCartney did write them
Even The Rolling Stones first number one
Though George penned my favorite
Here Comes the Sun
