Each Footstep After

Posted in Poetry, writing with tags , , , , on November 29, 2009 by dustus

Seagulls raid
Crumbs from grains
Desolate stretch of beach
Scattering in scavenge
Fruitless visit brief

Circling the rundown pier
Away in random patterns
Instinctive fear
Kid carnival signs
Graffiti spattered

Crystalline shroud
Self-talk loud
Crunch sound underfoot
November frost
Webs of lit gems
Life being what actually happens
Imagination meets reaction
Rejection unbalancing satisfaction

Sand transparency
Drawn out of dreams
Glistening shimmers
No longer a quitter

I walked here
Many days, some nights
Closing my eyes
Salty breeze
Tactile sting
Nostrils tighten
Involuntary tearing
Droning waves batter
Review all the fearing
Clocks cease ticking
Wait a sec…

Ocean swell breathing
Nothing was hope to be
Still seeking
Tides teeming
And what really matters
Every footstep after
Horizon line an endless sea

Walk beside stirred ocean rage
Moist impressions of footsteps fade
Clashing peace and surge obey
Overlapping currents play

Moonlit water, churning mind
Dwelling thought extending time
So my friends, I was not right
Nature’s tides no one can fight

Reflections silver, soothing, twinkling
Stars may rise beyond cruel dreaming
Recede fair waves… “Goodbye,” they sway
Solitary strength remains

Mirror To The Core of Me

Sunset spread upon the earth a flare
Curvature of the horizon line bare
Soothing waves warm the heart like love
Ocean sighs tranquil
All of life one

Heaven may not be
Merely present in deepest dreams
Don’t believe my imagination perceives
This same colorful peace of palate
A mirror to the core of me
