A Silent Song

Posted in love, mental illness, Poetry with tags , , , , , , on May 10, 2019 by dustus

Crestfallen sighs to mirror waves
Lost mind to discontented days
Wasting breath from burning chest
Most welcome trove of treasured death

Smooth pebbled shore, beached jellyfish
Acts of cutting ties and….

Past life drowning under surface
Found paradise and don’t deserve this….

Love where once I thought self gone
To die alone, a silent song
Subject to scorn self letting down
The walls which isolate one’s sound

A Life That Works

Posted in One Stop Poetry, Poetry, Poetry Reading with tags , , , , , , , , , , on June 7, 2011 by dustus

I’d like to share a happy song
Figure out what does go wrong
Itching scalp from burning sun
Seldom let myself have fun…

Want it real?
Sushi raw?
Lacerations from a jaded saw?
I’d like to tell you how I feel
Man up from clown
Stand ground, appeal

Layers of an onion shed
Nightmare turns away pretend
The ceiling shows time’s twisted flow
Adjusting eyes tune street lamp glow

These walls are bare
As will, heartbeats
Jugular, nose
Breathe, repose
This is what a writer chose
As muffled echos ocean close
Interstate drone
Time alone
Everything I wrote and own
Spells drip catching studio skylight—
Wings melt into a candle vigil and
A life that works
Perceived self-worth
To walk this earth
Past pain, main, rebirth
Limbs coated with sweat
My pride, hair, and dirt

The Mind’s Eye

Posted in Blogging Awards, Image Poetry, One Stop Poetry with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on September 7, 2010 by dustus

Stare into these mystical eyes
Motion tween the shutter finds
Amid blinks of human passerbys
Visualize an empty mind

Open third skylight
Main being reclined
Breathing swell & then subsides

Calm frights at rest
There is no better
Feeling set open
You don’t remember
Time past life
This year, September
Can’t last
Going on

Captive on display
Prison echos shook
Rattling chains
Spectator looks
Tranquil, tased, electric hooks
Fish bowl, space drained, peace tamed, life took

Hours our minutes
Existence fades with sleep
Becoming accustomed
Keep living this dream

Branching Out

Posted in Blog, Image Poetry, Poetry Reading, writing with tags , , , , , , , , , on July 13, 2010 by dustus

Synaptic offshoots reaching frayed
Spreading from the roots time saved
Standing calm past wind-waved howling
Memory challenged, blue sky surrounding

Leafless, open, elements routing
Cloudless, minus any doubting
Branching out to find a way
Not thinking over
Life each day

Heaven Here?

Earth and you
Feeling true
Prismatic Hues

Summer’s bridge
Beauty sheer
Warm spring noon
Heaven here?

Like Statues Remind

Posted in Blog, education, Image Poetry, Poetry, writing with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on February 20, 2010 by dustus

Boyish eyes a glimmer spy
Sharing memorial to a place and time…

Hearts in her hands
Respecting new life
Something perfect
No words can mind

When everything’s worth it
And you don’t need to try
Remember your feelings
Like statues remind

*The above image is comprised of two photographs I took. The boy statue can be found in front of Oldsmobile Park in Lansing.  The statue of the girl stands in Downtown East Lansing.

An Unnecessary Weight

Posted in Blog, Poetry, writing with tags , , , , , on January 26, 2010 by dustus

Over my shoulder sits a man
This man I cannot understand
Yet I know that it’s me
Though I don’t Godly see
Only kind of get a sense
Like omniscient eyes
Press on dreams

Feeling apprehends
Perception befriends
But to myself
Nobody bends
Rather, he sits stolid
Not wanted his judgment
Without a voice
Nor consoling emotion
Many do think
His goal merely destruction
Devoid of choice

Life is good
In many ways
Enjoy the now
Shout, exclaim!
I dare say
Despite the way
My shoulder burns
From unnecessary weight
