Under Standing
Cannot sit still
Elbows switch
For once in life
Don’t care to win
Supporting palm
Glass bolstered chin
I don’t mean
What you think
Has been
Questioned
Time of life
Well, not unexpected
Less lines written
Minus invective
Smile somewhere
Over caring
Found the ground
Missed under
Standing

I liked the truth of this. Sometimes words fail me and I am drawn to those lines “I don’t mean What you think Has been”.
April 9, 2010 at 7:08 pm
Hi Leslie. I like how those lines came out, though I wasn’t sure how they would be interpreted. It’s fun to hear different interpretations.

fantastic. i am trying to understand the core meaning.
April 10, 2010 at 10:52 am
Thanks, trisha. At it’s core “Under Standing” is a poem based on misunderstandingsβtaking a stance in regard to something, yet arriving at that point through convoluted means (or lines in this case). Glad you like it π
have a great weekend!

I like the play on words in this poem Dustus. I hope I did not miss understanding it (see, I’m getting into the spirit of it now π Words can be great playthings, friends, enemies, comforters and communicators. You’ve exposed some of their double dimensions with great effect in this poem π
