The Economy’s Victims: Can We Afford the Insanity!
How can you deny
What has taken place?
Before our very eyes
Devastating unemployment
Mansions bought in lesser quantity
Meanwhile thunderous cries for respectability
A rifling echo through neglected numbers
Failed entities
Small business denied credit means
Starving kids in grimy poverty
Unaffordable health care beyond me
Too many homeless sleeping jobless
Unforgiving pavement, cold-moist city streets
Mourning in grief
Battered mothers, lost beliefs
Can we afford the insanity!
Just as veterans not provided hospice
While the wars they leave behind
Forever haunting them…
“More than 1,800 Veterans die every day in this country—that’s about 54,000 people a month, reports the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization. Dying Veterans represent a quarter of all deaths in the U.S. These Veterans are our family members, neighbors, friends, and co-workers, yet many Americans aren’t aware of the service these loved ones have given to the nation.”

PTSD, shattered souls, disabilities
“1/4 of all deaths in the US”
Too many unphased
Lulled to sleep
Others try desperately
Barely making ends meat
With little to no money
First priority is to eat
Awaiting our change
But greed’s an ancient game
Long been estranged as ourselves
Captured like pawns in a chess game
When one’s only moves are made in vain
The Economy’s victims
Whose with them?
Alongside neglected soldiers
Who gave themselves away?
Tired and hurt people
Not knowing how
Expecting common respect
Mere interest
Human debt goes unpaid
